The National Mosque (Masjid Negara) in Kuala Lumpur is nearby the Old Railway Station and located along Jalan (Road) Sultan Hishamuddin. Built in 1965, the National Mosque is modern in its architecture but still retains resemblance of Islamic designs. Key features of the mosque are the 73-metre (240 feet) pointed minaret and its blue umbrella-like roof.
A grand mosque during its early days, but now overtaken by other grander looking mosques such as the Putra Mosque in Putrajaya and the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Mosque in Shah Alam. However, it is still an iconic and probably the most well-known mosque in Malaysia. Non-Muslims are welcome to visit the National Mosque after the five daily prayers.
