Tanah Rata is the second largest town in Cameron Highlands after Brinchang, but commercial and tourist activities seem to centre in Tanah Rata. It is a small town and like most towns in Cameron Highlands, concentrated along the main road passing through the highlands. You can walk from one end of the town to the other in 10-15 minutes. Many of the cheaper accommodations and hotels are in Tanah Rata and nearby. I once stayed at a budget accommodation called Twin Pines here - decent and clean place popular with backpackers.
