Genting Highlands, Malaysia - About Genting Highlands

Genting Highlands is a highland resort and theme park situated 1,800 metres (5,900 feet) above sea level and 50 km (32 miles) northeast from Kuala Lumpur. The climate up here is pleasantly cool with the day temperature around 25°C (77°F) compared to the 30-30°C (86-91°F) heat in the lowlands - I can't understand why some visitors at Genting would want to wear thick clothing as if they were visiting the highlands of Scotland in winter! However, the occasional strong winds does create a chilly experience and at night, temperatures drop to around 10°C (50°F).

Genting is over-commercialised with its hotels, theme parks, tourist shops and is the only casino in Malaysia. Probably the reason why Genting promotes itself as a 'City of Entertainment' but it is no Las Vegas. Everything is overpriced here (at least by Malaysian standards) from the food to souvenirs. Genting attracts both Malaysian and foreigners - plenty of Arab, Singaporean and Chinese tourists. For some, Genting's attraction is the casino, others it's just the theme parks and for many both the casino and theme parks.
