Langkawi Islands, Malaysia - Duty-Free Shopping

Besides the beaches, Langkawi Island is a popular destination in Malaysia for duty-free shopping. Most of the duty-free shops are in Kuah Town, the island's capital and commercial centre. Some of the duty-free shops are in the shopping malls, at Jetty Point (beside the ferry terminal) and in the small shops mostly located in the town centre.

If my observation serves me right, tourists from the western countries are more interested in the beaches than duty-free shopping. On the other hand, Malaysian tourists are more interested in duty-free shopping than the beaches. Guess this explains why the hotels in Kuah Town are mostly occupied by Malaysian rather than foreign tourists.

I am not much of a shopper even if it is duty-free but do have an obsession for chocolates, especially those from Europe and Australia. You can hardly find these chocolates on the mainland and if you do, cost twice as much. Other duty-free items include the usual dose of cigarettes, alcohol, cameras, electromics, leather goods and clothes.
