Kuah Town is a small town located on the southeastern corner of Langkawi Island and is the capital and largest urban area on the island. The town has a population of only 12,000 and though the heartbeat of Langkawi, it is surprisingly a quiet town considering Langkawi receives more than 700,000 tourists each year. The main reason is visitors on the island prefer to stay in the hotels and resorts along the beaches.
There are not many attractions in Kuah Town other than shopping, especially duty-free shopping, and most of what Langkawi has to offer are outside of town. It is somewhat a laid back but definitely not a dead town. There are the coffee shops and restaurants ranging from the pricey to the cheap. However, forget about high-voltage nightlife in this town! There is more life at the beaches at night but nothing sleazy.
