Fraser's Hill is a hill station in the state of Pahang located 105 km (65 miles) north of Kuala Lumpur. It sits 1,524 metres (5,000 feet) above sea level and named after Louis James Fraser. Fraser was a Scotsman who began a trading business in the 1890s with the Chinese tin miners in the area. It seems he was very enterprising, opening a gambling and an opium den frequented by the Chinese miners - those miners must have been stoned while working in the tin mines!
Well, there are no more tin mines, gambling and opium dens in Fraser's Hill and today a holiday destination in the highlands. Compared to Genting Highlands and Cameron Highlands, Fraser's Hill is not over commercialized and very much a quiet highland destination. Those searching for fun, excitement and the trappings of tourism then this is not the place. Fraser's Hill is for those seeking a quiet stay while enjoying the beauty of the highlands.
