Kuantan's airport is about 15 km (9 miles) from the city. It's a medium-sized airport but handles few flights. The only airlines with scheduled flights to the airport are Firefly (Penang and Singapore) and Malaysian Airlines (Kuala Lumpur). Since Kuantan is only 3-4 hours by land from Kuala Lumpur, land travel seems to be the most popular mode of transport.
The Karak Expressway and East Coast Expressway connects Kuala Lumpur and Kuantan. You can travel by car or have the option of several express bus companies offering services between the two cities. Whether by car or bus, it is always a pleasant journey passing through scenic mountains, oil palm plantations, small laid back towns and kampungs (villages).
