Penang, Malaysia - Penang Airport

Penang (International) Airport is about 16 kilometres (10 miles) south from George Town, the state capital of Penang. I have lost count how many times I have used this airport. This is a modern medium-size airport but I remember the same airport in the 70s when it looked more like a small rundown building nearby a runway - times have changed!

Main airlines using this airport include Malaysia's low cost carriers Air Asia and Firefly flying between other airports in Malaysia. Malaysian Airlines also uses Penang Airport, flying mainly between Kuala Lumpur as well as Singapore. Others include several Asian airlines including Cathay Pacific, Tiger Airways, Silk Air, Thai Airways, Korean Air, Lion Air, and China Southern Airlines flying from various cities in Asia.

Facilities at Penang Airport including a couple of fast food restaurants (yes, McDonald's is here) and coffee shops as well as convenience stores, gift shops, bank, post office and hotel booking counters. For ground transport, there are several car rental companies, taxis, private transfer buses and local buses (Rapid Penang).
